National Education Association
After leading the United Faculty of Florida in 1982 to affiliate with the National Education Association, Ken Megill was asked to come to Washington, DC to consult with the largest teacher's organization about how to transform their operations to more effectively represent college and university faculty and professional employees. In August 1983, he presented a report that recommended steps designed to “transform” the higher education programs of NEA. The recommended communications program for the 75,000 college and university faculty who had recently affiliated with NEA was adopted and he was asked to stay on to implement his recognition. The publications he developed continue to this day, including Thought and Action, whose circulation of over 80,000, makes it the largest academic publication in the USA.
